The National Endowment for the Arts has announced that Henry Atsienhanonne Arquette, Mohawk basketmaker, is the recipient of a 2014 National Heritage Fellowship, U.S.A.'s highest honor in the folk and traditional arts.  A master basketmaker specializing in utility baskets (pack, laundry, picnic, wedding, and corn washing baskets), Henry continues the Mohawk basket making art learned from his parents and grandparents.  While supporting his family through ironwork on bridges and skyscrapers across the country for many years, Henry also developed his basket making skills. He has been generous in teaching this Mohawk art to the next generation.

Henry Arquette

For all of us at St. Regis Church, Henry has been a true witness to faith in God through good times and trials.

Pray to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

Gah-deh-lee   De-gah-quee-tah

Kateri Tekakwitha

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha is the first Native American to be declared a Saint.

Boy's miracle cure makes first Native American saint

She is also the patroness of the environment and ecology.

Her feastday is April 17th in Canada and July 14th in the United States

O Saint Kateri, Lily of the Mohawks, Your Love for Jesus, so strong, so steadfast, Grant that we may become one like you. Your short and painful life showed us your strength and humility Grant that we may become forever humble like you. Like the bright and shining stars at night, we pray that your light may forever shine down upon us Giving light, hope, peacefulness and serenity in our darkest moments. Fill our hearts, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha with your same Love for Jesus and grant us your strength and courage to become one like you in Heaven. Amen

Then say Our Father and Hail Mary, Once, and Glory Be three times
